Base has deployed the Azul upgrade on its mainnet, introducing a new transaction verification system that combines Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) and zero-knowledge proofs to accelerate fund withdrawals to Ethereum and decrease dependence on centralized participants.
The upgrade represents a critical milestone toward Base's full decentralization roadmap, according to the development team. The new verification mechanism allows the network to process transactions more efficiently while maintaining security guarantees across the bridge between Base and Ethereum mainnet.
Following deployment, Base reduced empty blocks by 99% and achieved transaction throughput of 5,000 transactions per second, demonstrating substantial improvements in network efficiency and capacity utilization.
