Polymarket Bettor Loses $31K on Cuba Invasion Prediction

Polymarket bettor loses $31,000 after $57.5K wager on 2026 Cuba invasion briefly moves odds above 80%.

A new cryptocurrency wallet holder spent $57,500 on Polymarket betting that the United States will invade Cuba in 2026, briefly pushing the prediction market's odds above 80% before the position collapsed, leaving the trader down $31,000.

The large single wager on the political outcome created a significant but temporary price spike on the decentralized prediction platform. The odds subsequently fell to 26%, erasing more than half the bettor's initial capital as market participants likely viewed the elevated probability as an overextension disconnected from geopolitical reality.

The trade illustrates both the liquidity constraints of niche prediction markets and the risks of outsized positions in low-volume contracts. Polymarket, which allows users to bet on real-world events using cryptocurrency, has attracted substantial trading volume since its 2023 expansion into U.S. markets, though individual large bets can still materially shift odds on less-liquid outcomes.
