Akash Network has completed the AEP 76 upgrade, introducing Burn-Mint Equilibrium (BME) tokenomics designed to increase demand for the AKT token through an updated lease settlement and tenant payment system.
The upgrade, which went live on Mainnet 17 following a governance vote, restructures how the network handles lease economics. The BME mechanism creates a deflationary pressure on the AKT supply while simultaneously incentivizing network activity, addressing a core economic challenge for decentralized cloud computing platforms competing with centralized providers.
The implementation of BME represents a shift in Akash's approach to sustaining long-term token value and network adoption. By tying tokenomics directly to actual usage rather than speculative dynamics, the protocol aims to establish a more sustainable economic model for its distributed computing marketplace.
