Metaplanet, the Japanese investment firm, has accumulated 43,000 bitcoin across two quarters, solidifying its position as the third-largest corporate holder of the cryptocurrency after MicroStrategy and BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust.
The company acquired 5,075 BTC during the first quarter, bringing its holdings to 40,177 BTC at that time, according to CoinDesk. In the second quarter of 2026, Metaplanet added another 2,823 BTC for approximately $221 million, pushing total reserves to 43,000 BTC.
The aggressive accumulation strategy reflects institutional demand for bitcoin as a store of value and portfolio diversification tool. Metaplanet's ranking among corporate bitcoin holders underscores the ongoing shift toward bitcoin adoption by major investment firms, following similar moves by MicroStrategy and traditional asset managers entering the space.
